North River Advisors takes its name from the original name for the Hudson River. The “North River” was the first name for the Hudson which borders the west side of New York City and extends north to the Adirondack Mountains. First observed by Italian explorer Giovanni da Verrazano in 1523 and then later explored by Henry Hudson in 1609 – the North River has a long and storied history as America’s first river. Today, many maps as well as mariners and nautical authorities continue to refer to the southernmost portion of the Hudson River in or around lower Manhattan as … the North River.

The North River’s place in American history is well documented. For generations, the North River served as a center of commerce in the new world at the many piers that still extend into the Hudson from Manhattan. More recently, major businesses, luxury apartment buildings in Tribeca and the West Village, and one-of-kind public spaces have taken residence alongside the North River. Over the past two decades, the area neighboring the North River has seen continued growth and a revitalization that has made it one of the most unique and dynamic locations in New York and a beacon for the rest of the City.
